Emma Watson Feels Typecast And Still Struggles With Her Self Image

Emma Watson says that sometimes, perhaps even oftentimes, she feels like a fraud or an imposter. Emma Watson made her name playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movie series and her popularity, thanks to that starring role, has become a bit of a double edged sword for the young phenom.

The website Yibada quotes an interview she gave to Vogue UK where she talks about a number of issues that have surrounded her acting career. Among those issues is the fact that Emma got her start at a very young age. Watson feels as though she might have hurt her own self worth a little bit because she became an actor when most girls were just worry about learning algebra. Emma also said that she felt so natural doing it when she was younger and didn’t really have to think about it that when Watson gets accolades for her acting these days, she feels uncomfortable.

“When I was younger, I just did it. I just acted. It was just there, so now when I receive recognition for my acting, I feel incredibly uncomfortable.” Watson said in the interview. Emma added that sometimes it goes beyond feeling uncomfortable. “I feel like an imposter. It was just something I did.” The actress added. On the flip side, Emma gave another interview where Watson said that she sometimes feels like Harry Potter‘s world isn’t the only world where she can excel and show off her acting chops. Emma Watson told La Prensa that, “sometimes, I have to prove that I can be different people.”

That kind of type casting is far from rare. There are still people who look at Jennifer Aniston and only think about her starring role in the long running sitcom Friends. This despite the fact that show went off the air nearly 20 years ago. Emma seems to understand that having the success she did as Hermione is a good thing, but Watson apparently wonders what would have happened if her career had taken a different path. While she might look back every now and then, the young star is also working hard to indeed prove she can be other people. The actress has a slate of films on the horizon these days, including the lead role in a film called Regression. In this flick, she’ll play a girl named Angela. Emma Watson will do her best to sell the role of a young woman with a hidden past who accuses her dad of doing something terrible.
