‘Empire’ Season 2 Spoilers: Jamal Becoming The New Lucious?

Empire Season 2 is only days away from airing on Fox, and fans couldn’t be more excited. However, they may be confused about the change in one of their favorite characters, Jamal Lyon.

According to WetPaint, actor Jussie Smollett says that Jamal is now in charge of Empire and will be running it the way he sees fit, which isn’t always how everyone else thinks it should be run. In fact, Jamal may be turning into a little Lucious Lyon in the absence of his father, who we all know is in jail after being busted for murder in the Season 1 finale.

Jussie Smollett recently told Billboard that Jamal is out for blood this season, and he is changing, which isn’t always the best thing for the beloved Lyon brother.

“Watch out for Jamal: He’s like the gay 2Pac — he ain’t playing! People aren’t always going to agree with the choices that Jamal makes. He’s changing, and sometimes those changes are not going to be so great.”

Perhaps Empire fans will get to see Jamal make some mistakes, even follow in the footsteps of his father, Lucious Lyon, but since viewers know that Jamal has such a good heart, he’ll likely find his way off the wrong path and back to the right path. However, what we don’t know is how long Jamal’s journey will take, especially with Lucious out of the picture for now.

There has also been some talk that maybe Jamal can be brought back down to Earth by one special person, his ex-boyfriend, Michael. Actor Rafael de La Fuente recently shared a photo on Instagram of himself and Jussie Smollett together, and even used the hashtag Michael.

Hopefully, this means that Michael will return to talk some sense in to Jamal, and help remind him of where he started from and why he and his father had a strained relationship in the first place.

Meanwhile, Jamal won’t be the only thing that’s changing during Empire Season 2. Jussie Smollett claims that the music is a bit different, as well.

“The music is a little bit more aggressive, if you will. We have such dope people working with us right now: Ne-Yo, Swizz Beatz, Jim Beanz, Timbaland, J.R. Rotem. I have been writing more, and I did get some of my songs in there so far. [Empire creators/executive producers] Lee Daniels and Danny Strong have really welcomed my input with the music, which is great.”
