Peta Murgatroyd Suffers Ankle Injury, Will Not Compete In Season 21 Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Peta Murgatroyd will not be competing in Season 21 of Dancing the the Stars, due to a recent ankle injury.

According to a report by Us Weekly, the dance pro was “devastated” when the doctors informed her that her ankle pain was the direct result of four torn ligaments and a floating piece of bone at the back of her joint. To further her dismay, Peta was told that she would have to undergo surgery if she did not want to put her dancing career in jeopardy.

On Monday, August 31, Peta Murgatroyd posted a lengthy message to her fans on Twitter, sharing with them the disappointing news, but also assuring them that she would be back as soon as possible.

“The past three days have been really tough to say the least..I learned that my ankle injury is at a stage that needs surgery immediately. I’m so sorry but I have to step out of Season 21 of DWTS,” she tweeted. “This is obviously one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever made and I seriously struggled with the idea of not being able to dance, but I know my health does come first, and the sooner I get this done, the sooner I can be back in the ballroom for all of you!”

According to her tweet, it looks as though Peta will be out of the competition for at least six to eight weeks. She says she hopes to be physically able to come back before the season ends to participate in the group numbers and cheer on her friends in the audience.

“It killed me to let someone else take care of Andy, who is such a genuine loving guy,” Peta continued. “But I know he will be in good hands. I will miss the show so much but just know that I will come better back than ever, and with a brand new ankle ? Thank you for all the love today, I loved reading all of your supportive tweets, even though I couldn’t say anything until now. I will also keep you all up to date on my progress and of course you will see some silly ‘before and after’ surgery pictures. Lastly, I love you all and thank you for always being so positive for me. Peta will return in no time at all.”

According to People Magazine, Peta Murgatroyd, who joined the dancing competition show in 2011 as a troupe member and then joined the cast of pros during Season 13, had just come off of a three-month Dancing with the Stars live tour. She said she “felt great” heading into rehearsals with her partner Andy Grammer, but she said she could tell that “something was not right” when she went to put on her heels. After the doctor told her the heartbreaking news, Peta said she was so worried about telling Andy because he had specifically asked to be her partner.

“It was awful telling Andy. He had specifically asked to be partnered with me and I felt like I was letting him down,” she said. “But he understood and has been a great guy about it.”

Grammar’s new partner will be announced on Good Morning America on Wednesday morning, along with the rest of the DWTS cast.

Peta has competed in every season since she originally signed on, and even took home the mirror ball trophy in Season 14.
