The Islamic State released their most horrific “movie production death film” just hours ago featuring the brutal death of four men, hogtied and hanging upside down, then set on fire and burned to death. If those words are difficult to read, imagine how hard the video is to watch, which is why most media outlets are choosing not to share it. The four men were part of the Popular Mobilization Forces, or PMF, an organization of fighters who sympathize with the Iraqi government and are backed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to The Long War Journal.
The men were executed by hooded ISIS “fighters,” as has been seen in previous films, in a desert area, which appears desolate and unpopulated. The killings are part of a long-term vicious cycle of violence that has permeated Iraq for years and shows no signs of ending. The Islamic State’s men justify these most recent murders by saying it is revenge for the brutal executions committed by Shiite forces. However, the Islamic State has often released videos of horrific killings and is known to often kill for no sane reason, as it regularly executes its enemies in increasingly barbaric ways, from beheadings to burnings. It is difficult to imagine what deaths they could conceptualize that could be worse. Three of the four men killed appeared to be in their twenties and thirties, but one man was elderly. All were chained and walking barefoot and were forced to watch a video of similar deaths, described by some Twitter users as “barbaric human barbecues” before the were given the same fate.
In the earlier video, a well-known Shiite fighter identified as Abu Azrael, or “Father of the Angel of Death,” proclaimed, “ISIS this will be your fate, we will cut you like shawarma,” which is a reference to the Middle Eastern kebab dish. The executioner then slashed a large piece of the man’s thigh as he declared this, according to The Blaze.
Before they were killed, the four men were told it was to avenge the deaths of recent ISIS fighters from Shiite forces. The masked executioner told them it was retribution.
“Now retribution has come, for today, we will attack them as they attacked us, and punish them as they punished us.”
The never-ending, always-escalating violence increases as ISIS continues to grow in Syria and Iraq. This video was reportedly shot in the Iraqi al-Anwar province. The United States and allies have been stymied as to how to deal with the Islamic State, which also targets women and children, taking them as sex slaves and often selling or killing them as well.
