Zayn Malik is no longer a part of the sensational boy band One Direction, but the 22-year-old is branching out on his own successfully. He recently shared a “selfie” photo, published on the latest cover of Interview magazine.
People reports that Malik made the cover of the September #ME issue of Interview magazine, along with other celebrities, including Victoria Beckham, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Mert Alas, Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez.
The latest issue of Interview magazine honors the top 150 people who have a power social media impact, as well as the top leaders in the entertainment industry.
Meanwhile, Malik’s Twitter spats this month resulted in some constructive advice. The English drum and bass duo Sigma thinks Malik should pipe down on social media squabbles after the former boy bander got into a public arguments with singer Calvin Harris. Sigma allegedly opened up about Malik at the recent Fusion Fest.
“We would work with him but only if he doesn’t start a fight like he did with Calvin. He needs to learn when to keep it schtum. Starting up with someone like Calvin Harris is just a ridiculous thing to do. Calvin’s a legend and a big guy in all sense of the word. He’s ripped.”
Simon Cowell also had choice words for Malik. Although Cowell admits he hasn’t spoken to Malik recently, he indicated that he thinks Malik should take a break from Twitter for a while.
“I don’t like this Twitter stuff, you are always going to regret what you say on Twitter. With Zayn I just think he needs to get a sense of perspective back in his life, which is that he had a really great opportunity, he decided for whatever reason he didn’t want to do it anymore so maybe just keep quiet for a while, make a great record and enjoy life.”
It seems that “making a record” is exactly what Malik is doing. In July, he signed on with RCA Records. The young singer received Cowell’s blessings after signing up as a solo artist, and his former band mates seem to be amicable with the former member. Earlier this month, One Direction member Liam Payne explained that their music was never really Malik’s style.
“One Direction was never Zayn’s sort of music so he kind of always wanted to find something else. If your heart’s not into something you can’t just carry on doing it because of fame and stuff. You have to go and do what you want to do.”
So far, there’s no indication as to when Zayn Malik when release his solo album, but he promises that fans will hear him “being the real Zayn Malik.”
