‘Winds Of Winter’ Release Date: George R.R. Martin Claims One Key Character Is ‘Alive Beyond A Doubt’

As fans eagerly await the Winds of Winter release date, author George R.R. Martin seems to enjoy giving hints. The author regularly answers fan queries on his LiveJournal blog, and recently, he confirmed that one character’s still alive in the sixth installment of A Song of Ice and Fire

When asked by a fan named Arthur Merinovich if Stannis Baratheon is alive or dead, George responded, “In my books? Alive, beyond a doubt.”

It can be recalled that in the HBO series, Brienne swung her sword at Stannis, which made viewers think that he’s dead. Even director David Nutter confirmed the death of the aspiring king to Entertainment Weekly.

“From the very beginning, and [through] the script process, that was the intent — he’s dead.”

However, even if Stannis was killed off in the television adaptation, the same thing might not happen in the Winds of Winter book. Stannis was only presumed dead in the books when Jon Snow received a letter from Ramsay Bolton about Winterfell. Ramsay told Jon that Stannis tried to take away the castle from him, but failed and died.

The veracity of Ramsay’s letter is now being questioned with George R.R. Martin’s latest revelation. Fans have to keep speculating because George doesn’t want to be asked about the real Winds of Winter release date. On his blog, he once joked that his minions would lop the heads of those who kept on asking.

As per Geekwire, George isn’t pressured if the adaptation will finish before his books. He previously pointed out that he was writing a 1,500-page novel, whereas Game of Thrones showrunners only needed to come up with just a 60-page script each episode.

“Then I said, to hell with that. Worrying about it isn’t going to change it one way or another. I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence… I’m just going to tell my story, and they’re telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see.”

In an interview with Game of Thrones fan and Jets player D’ Brickashaw Ferguson, George assured fans that he’s doing his best to finish Winds of Winter. Apart from skipping several public appearances and conventions, he likewise withdrew from writing scripts for the show.

“I can write one script per season if I choose to, and I did for the first four seasons, I scripted one episode every season. So the last two seasons I have not done that, simply because I am too busy with the book.”

Fans have been waiting for the Winds of Winter release date for four years now.
