‘The Whispers’ Spoilers, Renewal News: What Can Fans Expect As Season 1 Wraps?

The Season 1 finale of The Whispers airs Monday night on ABC, and fans are anxious to know what to expect. This one is titled “Game Over” and fans are a bit worried about what lies ahead. What Whispers spoilers are available for the season finale? How are things shaping up regarding a second season from ABC?

As TV Guide details, viewers will watch as Drill amps things up regarding his end game. The team will be anxious to get ahead of it all, hoping to squash the plans before it’s too late. Though everybody is scrambling to figure out how legitimate the idea of an alien invasion is, the answers may need to come from resources they aren’t necessarily prepared to utilize.

As TV Insider details, viewers will get major answers in Monday night’s Season 1 finale. The Whispers spoilers indicate that everybody will learn exactly what Cassandra’s screech meant and who was waiting to hear that message. Showrunner Zack Estrin and co-executive producer Soo Hugh tease that the intended recipient should come as a big surprise.

Estrin reveals that the kids who have already been connected with Drill will remain connected as this final battle plays out. This may well mean that parents and their kids will have to face off against one another and this puts the parents in a horribly difficult position. It seems that many will find themselves struggling with how to handle this impossible situation and for some, it’s surely not going to end well.

The Whispers spoilers indicate that viewers will learn who Drill ultimately is and what he wants before Monday’s episode is done. It seems it will tie back to Drill’s first appearance and that 1984 incident. People will get answers that tie up the loose ends of Season 1.

That said, there will be a cliffhanger in the sense that a new shocker comes into play as Season 1 wraps. That will certainly keep fans intrigued and hopeful about another season ahead, but the unfortunate news is that ABC has yet to renew or cancel The Whispers. Those with the show have a plan for Season 2 should they get the opportunity, but at this point, it’s far from being a done deal.

As Deadline details, the contract options for the key Whispers cast members were not picked up by ABC Studios. The network wasn’t ready to make a renewal decision before the options deadline, and it seems that producers always had a plan that would allow for significant cast changes if needed heading into another season.

It sounds as if the show may be looking toward the type of cast shifts done with other shows lately like American Horror Story, True Detective or now Secrets and Lies. However, viewers will surely be disappointed if the likes of Lily Rabe, Barry Sloane, Milo Ventimiglia, and others depart. The core cast is said to be embracing other projects in lieu of being locked into Season 2 of The Whispers, but nothing seems a done deal yet.

Complicating the possibility of keeping the cast together is the fact that the pilot filmed in Los Angeles, but the full season shifted to film in Vancouver in a move that caught the cast off-guard. The show seemingly has no plans to move back to Los Angeles, but Rabe and others were not happy with the sudden move in the debut season.

Adding a touch of additional intrigue, Estrin teases that there are ways that the core characters could make it through this Season 1 finale, but “there are other ways to completely alter a character’s journey other than death.” He adds that “for them, death might be preferable.” It sounds as if those behind the show have managed to plan for all possibilities so that the finale does stand as a series finale if need be, but there is a framework in place for Season 2 if ABC grants them one.

Just how will things end in Season 1 of The Whispers? Fans are anxious to find out and it all plays out Monday night on ABC.
