New York Yankees Rumors: Is Team Really A World Series Contender?

New York Yankees rumors address whether the team is a 2015 World Series contender. The Yankees certainly showed a strong capability to score runs on Sunday (August 30). As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the team scored 20 runs against a hapless Atlanta Braves pitching staff. The offense did everything right, including Stephen Drew going 4-for-4 on the day. If Drew is hitting that well, it should surprise nobody that the MLB standings look good for Yankees fans.

Including the games from Sunday, the updated 2015 MLB standings have the Yankees as the first wild card team. With a record of 72-57 so far, the Yankees are four games ahead of the Texas Rangers (68-61) for that spot. After struggling recently, the team bounced back to win three straight games against the Braves. It helped secure a stronger position in the standings, but it hasn’t made up any ground in the American League East yet.

There have been plenty of negative New York Yankees rumors this season, including drama about Alex Rodriguez, another Masahiro Tanaka injury, and the lack of a good hitting shortstop. The team has overcome a lot to now be just 1 1/2 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the East. It didn’t help matters that the Blue Jays swept the Detroit Tigers over the weekend, but at least the Yankees didn’t lose any ground.

Las Vegas oddsmakers have taken notice of the Yankees, ranking the team as the sixth most-likely winner of the 2015 World Series. Only the Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, and Los Angeles Dodgers have better odds to win the title. After the team was considered out of the running earlier in the regular season, this is a huge turnaround for the team and its fans. It’s also rewarding all the fans that have stayed loyal for the full season.

The team still has a lot of work left to do to clinch a spot in the 2015 MLB Playoffs, but this weekend showed that there is a lot of depth on the New York roster. That could help them overcome any weak links that could be addressed during the next MLB offseason. For the time being, any New York Yankees rumors are going to be positive, even if the team is still relying heavily on Stephen Drew to put up good numbers. Can they catch the Toronto Blue Jays now?
