Jimmy Fallon Chips Tooth, Misses One Night Of Live Show

Jimmy Fallon has been having a bit of a run of bad luck lately. First he badly injured his finger, and then weeks later, he has chipped his front tooth on Friday, August 21, 2015.

Nothing’s funny about chipping a tooth — especially if your livelihood relies on your smile and good health — but the way he chipped his tooth is just the tiniest bit funny.

While Jimmy Fallon promised a brand new episode that night, he ended up cancelling the following Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Instead, a hugely popular episode from three weeks earlier was replayed, in which Jimmy Fallon famously played host to Tom Cruise.

Jimmy Fallon is well-known for his Lip Sync Battles by now — if you haven’t gotten the chance to see one yet, Tom Cruise’s recent appearance on the show might prove to be the perfect introduction. The star blew the performance out of the water, and even Jimmy was floored by the amount of energy that Tom brought.

While Cruise was technically on the show to promote his recent Mission: Impossible movie, we know all know the true reason he was there — to Lip Sync Battle. While he and Jimmy giggled like school girls before the performance, mentioning how “ridiculous” this was all going to be, the performance was nothing short of comedy gold.

Us Weekly summed up the first round of performances perfectly.

“Cruise started his lip syncing by crooning his way through The Weekend’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face.’ Word-perfect and totally getting into the song, the Mission: Impossible hunk ran his fingers through his hair as he smouldered at the microphone, ending his performance with an impressive 360 degree turn. Knowing he would soon be upstaged, Fallon then did his own rendition of the Rolling Stones classic, ‘Undercover of the Night,’ nailing Mick Jagger’s trademark strut and carrying off his big lip impersonation with style.”

After “Can’t Feel My Face,” even Jimmy had to give himself a pep-talk before leading himself to the stage.

“Come on! Why am I even trying? Why do I even have to to try? That was unbelievable.”

But he soldiered on through “Undercover of the Night,” trying very hard to upstage Cruise by putting it all into mimicking the Rolling Stones.

When the band started playing the first rift of “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger, the song that Cruise famously lip synced in Risky Business, Jimmy Fallon looked like he was about to faint. Cruise slid on to the stage and grabbed the microphone with far too much charm, and muttered, “That wouldn’t be fair, would it?” to which Jimmy yelled, “Please, do NOT do that one!”

While Tom didn’t act on his threat, Jimmy was still totally unprepared for what was to come next — “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” by Meatloaf. Tom owned this song, doing both the male and female parts, making Jimmy later comment that he’d “never seen a one-man duet” before.

The wrap-up song was the very best, where Cruise and Fallon joined forces to wow the audience — particularly, one audience member — with the Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.”

One lucky lady in the audience was the focus of Cruise and Fallon – they sang the song to her and she laughed, blushed, and nearly cried.

Jimmy Fallon and Tom Cruise both had such a good time that they shared a hug at the end of the duet, where Jimmy officially named Tom the champion of the event. There have been some fantastic Lip Sync Battles on Jimmy’s show, but this one will go down in Tonight Show history!
