Watch Chicago Cubs Vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Live Online: Scuffling Cubbies Turn To Stopper Arrieta

The suddenly-struggling Chicago Cubs try to salvage one game of their three game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, in a crucial contest that fans can watch live online. The Cubs are now just 3-and-a-half games ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the race for the second National League Wild Card playoff spot, but on Sunday will be desperate to prevent their fifth loss in a row.

The Cubs started their West Coast swing as the hottest team in baseball, winners of 20 of their previous 24 games. But the last 17 of those 25 were played in Chicago. As soon they headed west, things went south for the team led by first-year manager, Joe Maddon.

After winning the opener in San Francisco, the Cubs dropped the next two, then flew down to Los Angeles, where they lost on both Friday and Saturday to the NL West-leading Dodgers.

On Saturday, the Cubs prize offseason $155 million acquisition, lefthander Jon Lester cruised through the first six innings, but collapsed in the seventh, allowing four straight hits to open the inning, leading to a four-run, game winning rally for L.A.

On Sunday, the Cubs turn to 29-year-old righty Jake Arrieta, whose $3.6 million salary is less than one-fifth of what Lester will collect this year — but who has so far won twice as many decisions as Lester — 16 to Lester’s eight — while his six losses are four fewer than his more expensive teammate has racked up in 2015.

Arrieta’s 2.22 ERA places him third in the Major Leagues, slightly ahead of Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw, who defeated the Cubs on Friday.

The Dodgers counter with 24-year-old Alex Wood, picked up by the Dodgers from the Atlanta Braves at this year’s trade deadline as part of a three-team, nine player deal that also involved the Miami Marlins.

But Wood has yet to impress in his short Dodgers career, making five starts with a 2-2 record and 4.34 ERA, striking out 21, but walking 14 and allowing 27 hits in 29 innings for Los Angeles.
