Rosie O’Donnell has reportedly cut her daughter Chelsea off financially and is refusing to turn over her social security card and birth certificate after her daughter left home to live with her birth mother. Chelsea just turned 18 years old this week, and there’s nothing Rosie can do to stop her daughter, reports TMZ.
This isn’t the first time Chelsea has left home, however. O’Donnell, who adopted Chelsea in 1997, just recently enlisted public help to find her missing daughter. The girl, who was 17 at the time, was found in the New Jersey home of a 25 year old man, an alleged heroin addict Steven Sheerer. Rosie confirmed the man is now facing charges, which are endangering the welfare of a child and sending a minor a nude photo. The minor reportedly entered the house willingly, but after an investigation, police found evidence of “inappropriate communications over the last several weeks between Sheerer and the minor,” CNN reports.

Rosie O’Donnell confirmed that the girl takes medication for an undisclosed mental illness, reports CNN. When she was missing, Rosie issued a statement claiming her daughter had stopped taking her medication and “is in need of medical attention.” As police searched for the minor, a representative for O’Donnell confirmed her daughter has a mental illness, telling reporters, “Chelsea, like millions of people, lives with mental illness.”
A source close to O’Donnell claims that Chelsea has always wanted find her birth mother, and now that she’s 18, Rosie can do nothing to stop her, according to People magazine. O’Donnell immediately cut Chelsea off financially, and obviously Rosie doesn’t agree with her daughter’s decision.
Her decision wasn’t made on a whim, however, and the girl always planned to seek out her birth mother. A source close to Rosie O’Donnell confessed to People:
“Chelsea made a decision when she turned 18 that she wanted to go to her birth mother. This was her choice.”
A rep for Rosie O’Donnell confirmed that the girl, for now, is in Wisconsin, living with her birth mom. Rosie advised her daughter to not go with Deanna after the birth mother drive down from Wisconsin to pick up Chelsea on the girl’s 18th birthday, reports TMZ, and O’Donnell has refused to give her daughter any financial support.
Although Rosie O’Donnell is said to have “good relationship” with her daughter, a source revealed to People that Chelsea was always a little uncomfortable that O’Donnell is her mother. She didn’t like it when her classmates discussed Rosie, and “hated if anyone brought up her mom.”
