A new teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally here. Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, fans have been closely following news of the upcoming sequel, anxious to get their hands on as much footage as possible.
Four months later, we have a new trailer, the third to come out, and it features brand new footage for the film, which is set to be released on December 18 of this year.
The teaser is short, just 15 seconds, but it’s certainly promising, with some clear lightsaber action and some up-close footage of the two newest characters to the Star Wars realm. Check it out.
One of the most interesting and exciting parts of this trailer is the blue lightsaber Finn wields. If you look closely in this video and also in photos and posters released so far, you’ll notice that it looks to be identical to the blue lightsaber held by both Anakin Skywalker and his son, Luke.
As far as we know, Finn doesn’t have any relation to the Skywalker clan, so how did he get a hold of it? It could simply be that the makers of the film are simply reusing old props, but it’s more likely that there’s some kind of connection between the two heroes. This revelation only makes fans more excited for future trailers, and the TheForce Awakens film, in its entirety.
The first official teaser trailer was released in November of last year, showing footage of some brand new characters using the same star-age equipment we love to see, including the beloved Millennium Falcon.
Fans had to wait six months until April for the next trailer that showed what the first trailer only hinted at: Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew would be returning as Han Solo and Chewbacca. It also showed some startling similarities between lines and events of the original series and the upcoming sequel.
In this trailer you see footage of both Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, and Finn, played by John Boyega. This duo will feature the newest members of the Star Wars Jedi and princess hero clan. The seventh installment of the Star Wars franchise takes place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. It will feature new heroes, villains, and special effects.
We’ll also see several familiar faces in the new film, including Harrison Ford, who will be returning as Han Solo, Peter Mayhew, who plays Chewbacca, Carrie Fisher as Leia, and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. You’ll also probably recognize names such as Andy Serkis and Warwick Davis who will be joining the cast, as well.
The new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens shows some pretty promising action for the films upcoming release later this year.
