‘Arrow’ Season 4 Spoilers: Will Diggle And Felicity Get Code Names?

Things are changing in Arrow Season 4. Not only will it not be as dark as the CW series has been in the past, but some things will be different when the team is in the field as well. A certain someone is finally getting some identity concealment out in the field, but is that going to extend to a code name for Diggle as well? Speaking of code names, Felicity could probably use one, considering the team is always talking to her back in the lair while they are in the field, but will that happen?

In Arrow Season 3, the concept of some sort of identity concealment for Diggle, who has been out in the field with the team so many times without something that someone should have picked up on it a while ago, was brought up more than once, but the response was always negative or non-committal. That is changing in Season 4, with Diggle getting his own suit, which was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, but that’s not all that’s changing for David Ramsey’s character. He is getting his own code name, as executive producer Wendy Mericle confirmed to Collider.

“By necessity, he can’t be Diggle out in the field. I can’t tell you what the code name is, but he’s gonna have a fun, cool code name. He’ll start to embrace a little bit more of that dual identity conundrum that Oliver has been grapping with for three years now.”

However, if you were hoping that Arrow Season 4 would also see Felicity getting a code name, so that the team isn’t using her name when communicating back and forth, you might be out of luck, as Mericle told TVLine that this isn’t in the cards right now.

“Dig is out in the field, so there’s a necessity for [him to have one]. But not quite yet for Felicity, although you never know. We all love the idea of her getting out there more and being a badass. It’s just a question of finding the right way to do it.”

What Felicity is getting this year is a new setup to go along with the new lair for the team. Entertainment Weekly posted the concept art for what has been referred to as the Arrow Bunker by the show’s writers, and while executive producer Marc Guggenheim did offer a few tidbits about it, it has yet to be revealed exactly where it is. (The basement of the club is obviously not an option anymore.)

“One of the fun things about this lair is that as opposed to one big space, where everyone would congregate, it’s now a much larger space divided up into smaller spaces. There is an area for Felicity [Emily Bett Rickards] to work, there is an area for Oliver to work out, and there is a garage. There are many different places we’ll continue to discover over the course of the season that give you a sense that this thing is a bit bigger than we got used to in the first three years.”

In addition to the computers for Felicity and workout space for Oliver the EP mentioned, you can see a roundtable, a place to park a car, the mannequins for the suits, and more in the concept art.

As stated above, this season is going to have “a lighter tone,” as Guggenheim told TV Insider, which also posted a first look photo of Oliver and Felicity looking happy in Arrow Season 4. That said, don’t expect the show to get too much lighter, as the EP went on to say that “it’s never going to be The Flash!”

Arrow Season 4 premieres Wednesday, October 7 at 8 p.m. on the CW.
