Derrick Rose Accused Of Drugging And Raping His Ex-Girlfriend

Chicago Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose is being sued by a woman who accused the NBA star of drugging and raping her along with two of his friends, according to a report by TMZ.

The woman, who reportedly identified herself as Jane Doe, said that she and Derrick Rose dated from 2011 to 2013. Jane also claimed that Derrick pressured her into doing various sexual acts she was not comfortable with, all of which she says she refused, within that two-year period.

The plaintiff’s report says that she and Rose continued dating until one day in August 2013, when Rose and two of his friends, Randall Hampton (also his personal manager) and Ryan Allen, invited her to Rose’s home in Beverly Hills. According to the report, Rose and his friends slipped a drug into her drink with the intention of raping her.

She claims that she was able to escape with the help of a friend. Later that night, she says, Derrick Rose and his friends broke into her apartment and gang-raped her. Being incapacitated at the time, she can only remember “flashes” of the incident, but she claims to remember Rose and his friends forcibly raping her.

TMZ also reported that the plaintiff took two years to come forward with her accusations because she was “ashamed and embarrassed” and was worried about her “conservative family” finding out. The woman is asking for unspecified damages in the lawsuit.

Chicago Now reported that a spokesperson for Derrick Rose responded to the allegations with a statement saying that the lawsuit is “outrageous.”

The plaintiff’s allegations are completely false and without any factual basis. This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shake down a highly respected and successful athlete. Mr. Rose was in a non-exclusive, consensual sexual relationship with the plaintiff for over two years. The plaintiff expressed no complaints about Mr. Rose until various lawyers began to surface and demand that the plaintiff be paid millions of dollars. This is the third lawyer the plaintiff has retained in this matter. Two years have passed since Mr. Rose ended the consensual relationship with the plaintiff and her claims are as meritless now as they were two years ago. We have complete confidence that the case will be dismissed and that Mr. Rose will be vindicated. This lawsuit is outrageous.

The Bulls organization claimed not having prior knowledge of the incident and decided not to comment on the matter, at least until such time when more details about the case emerge.

The Twitter mill, as expected, has been heating up, with most netizens dismissing the allegations against Rose as nothing more than a money grab. The tweet below is a good example.

There are some who took the time to remind everyone that resorting to outright victim-blaming won’t help anyone.

Derrick Rose is the franchise player for the Chicago Bulls and has won the honors for 2008-09 NBA Rookie of the Year and the 2010-11 NBA Season MVP.
