Dublin Airport Fire Contained, Flights Resume With Delays
A fire at Dublin Airport in Ireland caused several flights to be diverted on Wednesday morning.
According to a report by the Guardian, a major fire in a hangar forced planes to be diverted to Shannon and Belfast Airports. The Dublin Airport Authority said the fire on the rooftop in hangar three, owned by Eirtech Aviation, started at approximately 7:00 a.m. and caused the runway to be temporarily closed.

Thankfully, the area where the fire occurred is blocked off from the passengers, and no one was injured. Two aircrafts were believed to have been in the hangar, but reportedly did not receive any significant damage. Daa Communications Manager Siobhan O’Donnell said all of the staff members had been accounted for, according to the Irish news site RTE.
“We can confirm that there have been no injuries and all personnel on site have been evacuated and are safe,” Eirtech Aviation said in a statement.

The flights were suspended for approximately 90 minutes, during the busiest part of the day, O’Donnell said. Ten arriving flights were diverted, six to Shannon and four to Belfast, with approximately 40 flights being affected overall. Photos posted to Twitter and other social media sites showed the flames rising from the rooftop, and smoke billowing out of the building.

“The aircraft in the hangar are not affected but will be fully inspected in due course, as safety is Eirtech Aviation’s number one priority,” the company said in a statement. “We are working closely with the authorities at Dublin airport and apologize to all passengers for the disruption caused as a result of the fire.”
