Minecraft XBLA Sells 1 Million Digital Copies In Under A Week

We already know that the XBLA version of Minecraft is a huge success in terms of sales–which wasn’t very much of a surprise to begin with–but now we have more specifics on just how much of a success Minecraft‘s XBLA launch really was.

Earlier today, Microsoft announced that in less than a week after launching on XBLA, Minecraft has managed to sell an astounding one million copies on the platform worldwide, further cementing its place as the new king of XBLA sales.

“Thanks to your support, and a fantastic game coming from Mojang and 4J, we’re pleased to announce that Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, which launched less than a week ago as the final title in our killed “Microsoft Studios Presents: Arcade Next” program, has officially passed one million units sold on Xbox LIVE Arcade,” PlayXBLA reported.

In that period of just under a week, Minecraft players logged a total of 5.2 million hours played, Microsoft reported. 4 million multiplayer sessions were started for a total of 2.4 million total multiplayer “gaming hours.”

”Uhhhh, Microsoft just sent out a press release saying Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has sold a million copies in five days. Wow,” Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, creator of Minecraft, said in a tweet following the announcement.
