Bobbi Kristina Brown, 22, was laid to rest on August 3, and despite his best efforts, former boyfriend Nick Gordon wasn’t allowed to attend the services. Last week, he visited her gravesite on his own accord amid a $40 million wrongful death lawsuit looming over his head.
People reports that Gordon, 25, visited Bobbi Kristina’s gravesite at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey last Monday. One of Gordon’s family members confirmed that friends paid for his travel expenses.
Earlier this month, Gordon’s mother, Michelle Gordon, indicated that her son held his own funeral for Bobbi Kristina while the formal services were taking place. According to his mother, Gordon went to the beach to mourn Bobbi Kristina, a place where the couple reportedly used to frequent together often.
On August 10, Gordon commented on a now-deleted Facebook message that he would have his own service for Bobbi Kristina. He left the comment on Mason Whitaker’s Facebook status, a former roommate. Shortly after, Whitaker removed the message.
“We will have our own service remembering and honoring Krissi. Only real family that actually was there for her will attend.”
Prior to Bobbi Kristina’s funeral services, Gordon allegedly sent Pat Houston, Bobbi Kristina’s aunt, and Bobby Brown, her father, an emotional email, pleading to be a part of the funeral services. Yet, the emails went unanswered and Gordon didn’t show up.
Bobbi Kristina’s family feels that Gordon played in integral part into the incident that left Bobbi Kristina comatose and face-down in a bathtub full of cold water on January 31. In turn, a conservator, Bedelia Hargrove, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Gordon on Bobbi Kristina’s behalf.
In addition to wrongful death, Gordon is accused of stealing more than $11,000 from Bobbi Kristina’s bank account, emotional abuse, and physical abuse. The court document also provided other details.
“[Nick] gave Bobbi Kristina a toxic cocktail rendering her unconscious and then put her face down in a tub of cold water causing her to suffer brain damage.”
Gordon, however, still maintains his innocence, claiming he had nothing to do with Bobbi Kristina’s incident. He hired Florida-based attorney Jose Baez to represent him during the civil trial. Baez is well-known for defending Casey Anthony in the 2011 murder trial, in which she was accused of killing her daughter, Caylee Anthony.
So far, there is still no word as to when Gordon’s civil suit will take place. In addition, there is still no information on whether criminal charges will follow. Criminal charges against Gordon will depend on the final autopsy report on Bobbi Kristina Brown, which according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner, may take numerous weeks.
