Vin Diesel Confirms Third ‘xXx’ Movie In The Works

Xander Cage is making a return!

According to Vin Diesel, a third xXx film is in the works, and he will be reprising his role as the extreme athlete-turned-government agent.

The Fast and Furious actor revealed the exciting news on Instagram on Sunday, August 23, saying “the time to return has come.”

“While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel… The time to return has come. Filming starts December in the Philippines. #ILiveForThisShit,” he captioned a photo that showed a younger Vin Diesel sitting on a coach in a black suit.

Diesel originally appeared in the 2002 film alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Asia Argento. He was supposed to appear in the 2005 sequel, xXx: State of the Union, but later pulled out. He was replaced as the lead role by Ice Cube, who played another agent in the xXx program, according to Entertainment Weekly, who must uncover the insurgents from within.

Xander Cage is your standard adrenaline junkie with no fear and a lousy attitude,” Ryan McIntosh, with IMDbl writes about the original movie. “When the US Government “recruits” him to go on a mission, he’s not exactly thrilled. His mission: to gather information on an organization that may just be planning the destruction of the world, led by the nihilistic Yorgi.”

Not many details have been released about the new film, other than that it will start filming in the Philippines in December 2015.

IMDb does, however, give a brief plot overview.

“Xander Cage is left for dead after an incident, though he secretly returns to action for a new, tough assignment with his handler Augustus Gibbons.”

John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris will be serving as the writers for the screenplay, while Rich Wilkes will be doing the writing for the characters. Vin Diesel will not only be taking on the lead role in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, he will also be producing the film.

Vin’s latest film The Last Witch Hunter, in which he will star alongside Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood, and Michael Caine, will debut in theaters on October 23, 2015.
