Ben Carson Takes Media To Task For Misquoting His Drone Comments

Ben Carson is going on the attack against misreports from the media that he condoned the use of drones on people at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The GOP presidential candidate never actually said or implied such a thing, but that did not stop outlets like MSNBC and Reason from reporting it like he did.

That’s at least what Carson said when he chewed out CNN’s Jim Acosta on Sunday’s State of the Union news show, RealClearPolitics reports.

RCP obtained a transcript from the show, and here’s what Ben Carson had to say regarding the “irresponsible” media reports.

“It was quite clear what I was talking about. That drones are excellent for surveillance… Those fences are so easy to scale, it is almost like not having a fence there. So drones can help with the surveillance. In no way did I suggest that drones be used to kill people, and I said that to the media at the time. I said, ‘You guys, some of you, are going to go out and say, “Carson wants to use drones to kill people on the borders.”‘ How ridiculous. At some point I hope we have some responsible media which actually focuses on the problem: We have a huge security risk there. And talking to some of the sheriffs down there on the border… listen to the frustration. You should have them on your show and let them talk about what is actually going on down there.”

Carson later added that he was talking about using drones to strike caves that are used to hide and traffic people.

“What I said is it is possible that a drone could be used to destroy the caves that are utilized to hide people,” Carson said, then fielding a follow-up question on what caves he is talking about and who would be hiding in them, added this.

“The scouts who are facilitating, the scouts and the people who are facilitating the illegal activity. Those caves are very evident. I hope you have some of the sheriffs in. They could show you some of the pictures. Sixty-six percent of that border, it is not under our control.”

Also in the interview, Ben Carson said “all things are possible” when it comes to whether he’d be willing to serve as Donald Trump’s running mate (or have Trump serve as his).

Do you think Ben Carson was misreported by the media?
