The winning Powerball numbers for August 22 are: 4-12-14-212-55 PB 7 Powerplay 4

Although there were no jackpot winners for the last drawing on August 19 (6-8-43-48-50 PB 7 Power Play 2), there were over $5.6 million in non-jackpot prizes given away.

One lucky ticket holder in Pennsylvania won $2 million by matching all five white balls (no Powerball) and paying an extra $1 for the Megaplier. Because the Powerplay number drawn was 2, the $1 million prize for matching five numbers was doubled. A lottery player in Massachusetts also matched five white balls on their Powerball ticket last Wednesday, but because they did not purchase the Powerplay feature they will receive a $1 million prize.

If you are already dreaming about what you will do with the $90 million Powerball jackpot if you win tonight, it is important to note that you will not get the full jackpot if you choose the one-time lump-sum payout offered by the Multi-State Lottery Association.

According to USA Mega, Powerball winners who choose the one-time payout will receive the cash value of the jackpot — $57.7 million. Before the check is issued, the federal government will deduct approximately 25 percent for federal taxes and state taxes, if applicable.

There are currently nine states that do not tax lottery winnings, so unless you live in California, Delaware, Florida, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, or Wyoming, your windfall will immediately be taxed by the state you live in.

Powerball jackpot winners who choose the 30-year annuity option offered by the lottery will get the entire $90 million jackpot (before taxes) split up into 30 payments. The first payment of approximately $3 million will be issued shortly after the winning ticket is verified at the winner’s state lottery headquarters, followed by 29 annual payments of $3 million each.

Powerball tickets are sold in 44 States; Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico; and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are $2 each, with an additional $1 charged if the PowerPlay feature is selected.
