Vanessa Hudgens Dedicates Award After Broadway Debut To Dad’s Cancer Battle & Dishes Split With Zac Efron [Video]

Vanessa Hudgens is seeking prayers for her father. The 26-year-old actress revealed that her dad is battling stage-four cancer in an emotional speech at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards in Los Angeles, reported ABC News.

Held to benefit the Circle of Hope for dancers who have survived cancer, the awards ceremony has become even more meaningful to Vanessa as it has taken on personal meaning in recent years. And that includes first the loss of her boyfriend’s mother and now the battle of Hudgens’ beloved father.

At the Industry Dance Awards, Vanessa won the Breakthrough Performer Award. And she used that moment of joy to reveal her pain at her father’s condition.

“Last year, my boyfriend, Austin [Butler], lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage-four cancer,” said Hudgens.

Vanessa emphasized that she hates cancer, and that she wanted to dedicate the award to those battling the condition, especially those she loved.

“I dedicate it to my boyfriend’s mom… Lori, my dad, and to all the families out there who are struggling with this,” added Hudgens through her tears.

While attending the ceremony, Vanessa was questioned about her ex-boyfriend Zac Efron, reported Fox News.

Have Hudgens and Efron spoken recently?

“Next question,” said Vanessa.

After they worked together on High School Musical in 2005, Hudgens and Zac started dating in 2007, then broke up in 2010. Vanessa got together with Austin Butler in 2011.

The award ceremony was made especially significant in terms of Hudgens’ career when Kenny Ortega, her former choreographer and director, was there.

“The fact that Kenny is here and giving me out my award is so amazing,” asserted Vanessa. “It just really shows sometimes you meet people and they’re just kind of always there for you and that’s really special, especially in this industry.”

But what really happened between Zac and Vanessa? Hudgens revealed that she became jealous, reported People.

Vanessa recalled feeling angry at the barrage of attention from other girls that Zac constantly received. And she described herself as mean as a result of that attention.

“I went through a phase when I was really mean because I was so fed up,” admitted Hudgens. “Girls were running after him, and I was giving them death stares.”

However, Vanessa then realized that a relationship shouldn’t involve that kind of negative emotion. And so Hudgens has a new goal when it comes to feelings.

“Spread the love, be a good person, they support you, be nice,” said Vanessa simply.

As the Inquisitr reported, Hudgens recently charmed at the Tony Awards by showing off her triple threat skills in Gigi. Dancing, singing, and acting her way into the audience’s heart, she proved that musicals always are in style as she succeeded in her Broadway debut as the charming Gigi.
