Matt Barnes & Rihanna: Dating Rumors Are True, Basketball Player Insists
The Matt Barnes-Rihanna dating rumors are heating up again as the basketball player insists he wasn’t lying when he implied he was dating Riri.
In talking to The Jim Rome Show, Barnes insisted that he was telling the truth when he said he and Rihanna were “past the crush stage.”
“But the way I’m putting it right now, I’m too grown to lie, you know what I mean. It is what it is, I’m going to let this blow by like everything else blows by.”
Earlier this week, the Memphis Grizzlies player told TMZ that he and Rihanna had been on a few dates. In that interview, Barnes said he and Rihanna could be more than friends.
“Rihanna’s my friend right now, so we’ll see where it goes. I think it’s just past the crush stage, just a little bit.”
Soon after, Rihanna’s Instagram account showed a screen shot from the Matt Barnes interview. In her caption, Rihanna claimed she had never even met the NBA player.

Now Barnes is saying that Riri’s claim is simply untrue. When he saw the post and hashtags from Rihanna, Matt Barnes told Jim Rome that he simply smiled because he knew he was in a he-said-she-said situation.
“I just smiled. I just smiled, that’s it. What can you do? At the end of the day we’re all grown-ups. Like I said I’m too grown to be lying about stuff but life is life. You live and you learn.”
Barnes went on to say that despite Rihanna’s dating dismissal, he still stands by what he told TMZ. Barnes told Jim Rome that speaking the truth is part of his personality, and that’s the way he’s going to stay.
“In life in general, there’s no need (to lie). I’m grown. My upbringing just doesn’t allow me to have that kind of stuff in it. Life, sports whatever it is I’m just about the truth. I’m always going to be me, even if you know sometimes my mouth gets me in trouble. I’m always going to be me, because I speak on things I feel passionately about. So love me or hate me I’m going to be me regardless.”
