General Zod’s ‘Batman V Superman’ Costume Will Leave You Scratching Your Head

Fans have long speculated about what role General Zod will play in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, but Michael Shannon has revealed in a new interview that he apparently won’t look quite the same as he did in Man Of Steel.

Shannon was speaking with Vulture at a screening for 99 Homes when he elaborated on a behind-the-scenes mishap that inadvertently gave fans a taste of what is to come for General Zod in the highly anticipated film. Apparently, the situation transpired when Shannon, in costume as Zod, found himself unexpectedly locked behind a door while on-set.

“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where the f*** is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!’ “

Shannon was eventually able to escape the situation when a craft service person, who “was actually paying attention to what was going on,” opened the door for him. The actor credits the man with not only freeing him, but also saving his job, pointing out that “otherwise I would have gotten fired.”

The actor’s statement regarding his costume, however, has given fans pause to wonder just how Zod will appear in the highly anticipated film. The dead Kryptonian soldier was shown briefly in the film’s first official trailer (as the Inquisitr previously noted), zipped in a body bag, leading fans to speculate that villain Lex Luthor could be utilizing Zod in some kind of experiment.

The prevailing theory among fans suggests that Zod will somehow be transformed into the genetically engineered Doomsday, an iconic villain once responsible for killing Superman. Shannon’s admission that he has flippers in the film, however, has caused fans to reconsider their assumptions, with some pointing out that it sounds like Zod might be transformed into an adversary better handled by Jason Momoa’s Aquaman.

When questioned about his appearance in the trailer, Shannon said that he hadn’t seen the clip, yet as IGN notes, he did seem to inadvertently acknowledge that Zod will undergo some sort of transformation in the film.

“Well, I haven’t seen the trailer either, so I don’t know what I am in the trailer. I could be a toaster, or a Porsche, I don’t know.”

General Zod’s true involvement in the film will no doubt become clearer in the coming months as Batman v Superman approaches its release date of March 25, 2016.
