Rebekah Brooks Discusses Text Messages She Received from British PM Cameron

At a UK press ethics inquiry yesterday, former News International executive Rebekah Brooks had a few things to say about her relationship with British Prime Minister David Cameron.

In her anticipated testimony, Brooks said that Cameron privately spoke about the phone hacking scandal with her. Brooks claims that Cameron sent her text messages of commiseration to her after she resigned from her position.

“Did we ever speak about it in those two years (2010 and 2011)? Yes we did, but I do remember in 2010 having a more detailed conversation … because that was when the civil cases were coming in and it became more newsworthy,” she said (via Daily Telegraph).

“I think he asked me what the update was, I think it had been on the news that day, so I explained the story behind the news. No secret information, no privileged information, just a general update.”

Brooks took the opportunity to shoot down claims that her and Cameron were texting each other as much as 12 times a week, saying that, at the most, the two exchanged messages twice every week. Brooks said that Cameron frequently ended his messages with “LOL,” which he believed was “lots of love” before she corrected him.
