Calvin Harris, Zayn Malik Get Into Twitter War Over Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus

Calvin Harris and Zayn Malik have replaced Meek Mill and Drake as the latest celebrities to carry on a public war of words on Twitter, with the two taking jabs at each other over music, royalties, streaming, and their personal lives, Music Times is reporting.

The whole debacle began, as these things usually do, over a girl. Here’s what happened: in a tweet that has since been taken down, the Twitter account @FemaleTexts posted a photo showing Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. Here it is retweeted by another user.

In case you’re not clear on what’s happening there, the picture represents the two women’s different approaches to sharing their music with their fans. Calvin Harris’ main squeeze, Taylor Swift, has chosen to remove her music from free streaming services, such as Spotify, apparently as an act of solidarity with struggling musicians whom she believes are denied royalties from such services. Miley Cyrus, on the other hand, has mentioned that she would like to release her next album for free, according to Hollywood Life.

Regardless of which side of the issue you’re on, it’s apparently a contentious issue among musicians, too. Zayn Malik retweeted the offending post, not really directing it at anybody in particular, with the caption “G Statement.” Calvin Harris took offense at it, thinking that Zayn was dissing his girl.

First, Calvin chided both @FemaleTexts and Zayn for ignoring, in his opinion, the artists who haven’t yet hit it big, like Taylor, Miley, Zayn, and himself have.

“@FemaleTexts @zaynmalik You’ve made your money? Cool…f**k the 99% of musicians who depend on these services to survive right? Yeah f**k em”

Calvin then praised his main girl for trying to use her pull in the industry to benefit other musicians.

If u don’t get what it means when a successful artist uses their celebrity to benefit every other musician and songwriter in the industry…

Then he went straight after Zayn for drawing him into the debacle (although Zayn didn’t mention Calvin Harris or Taylor Swift directly).

“…stay out my f***n mentions pls”

Zayn, meanwhile, shot right back at Calvin.

As of this post, it appears the dust has settled between Zayn Malik and Calvin Harris.
