Jodi Meltzer: Blogger Writes About Dating As Single Mom, Meets Man Of Her Dreams

When Jodi Meltzer wrote about how hard it is to date as a single mom in the Huffington Post divorce section, she never imagined it would be the beginning of her own happily-ever-after. But it was, and apparently, she met the man of her dreams.

The blog, titled “Top 10 Rules For Dating A Single Or Divorced Mom,” was posted on November 17, 2014, and generated a lot of traffic — over 2,000 views on Facebook, and more on other social media sites. After all, it’s a perpetual question for those in her situation, and Jodi Meltzer’s no-nonsense blog post apparently struck a chord with Mike, who read in part.

“There are women who may actually wonder and worry about your texting frequency. They may analyze an instant replay of your date, fret when you haven’t called for a couple of days or call an emergency session with their girlfriends about your perplexing behavior over cocktails. Cute, right? If you’re into that, move along. Stat. Single and divorced moms don’t have time for that s**t.”

But Jodi Meltzer — who describes herself as a “blogger who responds to her toddler’s ‘Why?’ questions 7 million times a day” — could not have imagined she would meet her ideal man. However, that’s exactly what happened after a reader responded via email and the two started talking.

In a follow-up post — titled I Met The Love Of My Life Through HuffPost — Jodi Meltzer explained that she receives email responses to her articles and reads them all. Some of them are mean and insulting, some are supportive, but when she read Mike’s email, something happened inside of her.

“… there was just one that awakened my heart post-divorce hibernation. Just one that returned an authentic smile to my face, weathered by so many personal s**t storms. One genuine, eloquent, insightful message made me question my plan to stay single until my son turns 18.”

Mike is a single dad, Jodi explained, and he made her feel “heard, validated, and appreciated. And he made me giggle, too. I felt compelled to respond to him right away.” After “a firestorm exchange of emails” he gave her his phone number, but as a traditionalist, she refused to call first. However, he got her number and they talked for “three solid hours,” that day and every day after that.

According to the paper, Jodi Meltzer and Mike finally met in person, and six months later, they are happily involved in a loving relationship. The best part is that her 4-year-old son realizes how happy she is.

“Mommy,” he said. “You look so happy all of the time.”

Meltzer said she and Mike shared their most intimate thoughts and dreams and learned everything there is to know about each other. They met each other’s families — who clicked effortlessly — and their boys have bonded like brothers. Things couldn’t be better for the previously single mom giving dating advice.
