‘Castle’ Season 8 Spoilers Keep Leaking! What’s New For Beckett And Castle

The countdown has begun to the eighth season of Castle, and some changes will truly shake up the show. There are some comings and goings, and some job changes that will take Castle and Beckett on a different path.

As reported by the Inquisitr, the idea that Beckett was going into politics as suggested at the end of Season 7 was scrapped, and now she will take over as captain of the police squad and become the boss to Ryan and Esposito. Meanwhile, Castle is stepping it up as the chief detective in Richard Castle Investigations and taking on clients, but he is also looking into what really happened during his disappearance.

Leaving the cast is Penny Johnson Jerald as the captain, who will be replaced by Beckett. Also joining that squad is Toks Olagundoe as Detective Hayley Shipton, who will inject a female perspective into the team of Ryan and Esposito. Adam Baldwin will be returning as Detective Ethan Slaughter (who was introduced in Season 4) and will be a regular on the show.

A big change coming for Rick Castle will be the way he sees and relates to his daughter Alexis, played by Molly Quinn. Headline and Global News is reporting that Detective Shipton will serve as a mentor or older sister to Alexis as she makes the transition from child to adulthood.

“We like the idea of her as a mentor to Alexis in a way that Beckett [Stana Katic] has been, but because she’s also Castle’s wife, ultimately Hayley can play a little bit more of an older sister,” co-showrunner Alexi Hawley told Entertainment Weekly. “Alexis’ makeover includes a more mature haircut and possibly her first sexual relationship with a new boyfriend.”

Though Martha has moved out of the loft so that Beckett and Castle can have a more normal married life, their bond still exists, as she has been the only constant in his life.

“She’s very much a part of Castle’s life. Don’t think that just because she now has her own place and is doing well on Broadway that we’re not going to see her sharing her wisdom with her favorite and only son.”

And we hear there are even more changes to come on this season of Castle, but right now, lips are sealed.
