Watch defending French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain live online as they play their first home match of the 2015-2016 season, taking on newly promoted Gazalec Ajaccio in what will likely be the most one-sided match played in Ligue 1 this season — or the single greatest upset in French football history. But despite the latter possibility seeming remote, to say the least, there are still good reasons for watching the Sunday showdown.
To find out how to watch the Paris Saint-Germain vs. Gazalec Ajaccio Week Two Ligue 1 match live online, see the information in the final paragraph of this article. Kickoff time is scheduled for 9 p.m. at Parc de Princes in the French capital on Sunday, August 16 — 3 p.m. United States Eastern Time, noon Pacific.
PSG started the new season with a 1-0 win over Lille last week.
With the Corsican club Gazelec Ajaccio not only a gaining promotion from Ligue 2 just this season, but having played in the semi-pro third division — known as Championnat National — just one season before that, the tiny club whose entire budget, according to ESPN FC, is less than the yearly wages pulled in by PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, would seem to have only two chances to beat the champions: zero and none.
But Gazalec got their Ligue 1 tenure started with a 0-0 draw at home last week to Troyes, another newly promoted side, and while the heavy underdogs have no illusions about their chances facing the likes of Ibrahimovic, new signing Angel Di Maria and Edinson Cavani (pictured above) — in Paris, no less — they’ve promised to put on a spirited show, whatever happens.
“We have absolutely nothing to lose. We want above all to have fun,” Gazelec Manager Thierry Laurey said Saturday. “Frankly, I do not care about the result. We will try to give everything on the pitch, but we know that it will be very difficult.”
And while Paris Saint-Germain’s team of superstars — going for their historic fourth-consecutive Ligue 1 championship this season, after winning only two titles previously since their founding in 1970 — are confident of victory, they are approaching Sunday’s home opener with at least a degree of caution.
“It will be a very tough game, because we don’t know very much about this team,” said Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian defender Thiago Silva. “That means they could cause us problems. But if we concentrate like we did against Lille, we should get a good result.”
