Pete Carroll Has A Nasty Run-In With A Line Judge — Guess Who Gets Knocked Down? [Video]

Pete Carroll had a run-in with the line judge. What’s surprising is that, while the head coach lost footing due to the impact, the judge simply spun around and continued barreling down.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had a rather nasty tumble after colliding with an official during a pre-season game. Apparently, Carroll was completely absorbed in observing Tyler Lockett, who was running down for a touchdown. While watching Lockett break off in a 103-yard sprint for a touchdown, Carroll failed to make way for line judge Eugene Hall. While the judge was engrossed in observing the players, he ran into Carroll.

In the second quarter of Broncos-Seahawks preseason opener game, Tyler Lockett broke off a 103-yard kickoff return for a magnificent touchdown, reported Deadspin. While Tyler Lockett returned a kick for what eventually became a 103-yard touchdown, Carroll’s euphoria was abruptly cut short as he found himself on the line that judges use to run alongside the players. The Seattle Seahawks coach was so engrossed in celebrating Lockett’s return that he didn’t see the judge running towards him.

Needless to say, Carroll’s would-be celebration was woefully and abruptly cut short before it could really get started. A truly unfortunate Carroll couldn’t even see the last 20 yards of the play after getting mowed down by the referee. Speaking about the incident, the coach said as follows.

“I was jumping up and down for Tyler’s return, and I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to see him finish.”

Before Pete Carroll had a chance to react or move out of line judge Eugene Hall’s way, the two collided, which knocked the coach down and forced the judge to find a secure footing. While the judge deftly spun around and continued running, Carroll was left to find his balance and pride. It is surprising to see how well Hall maintained his balance while spinning, reported the Huffington Post.

For his negligence, Coach Carroll was fined a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. However, the penalty was enforced after Lockett had scored the touchdown. What’s unfortunate is that, despite the amazing performance by Lockett, Seattle Seahawks didn’t beat the Denver Broncos. Seahawks lost to the Broncos, 22-20.

Pete Carroll later shared on Twitter that he was doing well despite the nasty run-in.

“I’m doing well. As a matter of fact I feel pretty good, under the circumstances. I saw him, too, and I couldn’t get out of the way.”

Getting in a collision with a line judge and then losing. It sure wasn’t a good day for Pete Carroll.
