Get Shiny Mega Rayquaza For Limited Time In ‘Pokémon Omega Ruby’ And ‘Alpha Sapphire’

Gamers enjoying Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have another legendary coming their way. Shiny Mega Rayquaza is being distributed by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company until September 14, 2015.

Just like the Diancie distribution event, follow these steps to capture your Shiny Mega Rayquaza:

1. On the Main Menu screen, choose the “Mystery Gift” option.

2. Press the “Receive Gift” button.

3. Choose the “Via Internet” option.

4. Receive Shiny Mega Rayquaza and exit the gift menu.

5. Visit a Pokémon Center and speak with the Delivery Girl.

Important Notes:

  • Your party must have at least one open space to accept Shiny Mega Rayquaza.
  • After getting Shiny Mega Rayquaza, take a moment to save your game.
  • Always check that your Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 2DS is charged/plugged in using the A/C adapter. Losing power during the transfer can cause you to lose Shiny Mega Rayquaza.

Remember, this is not a standard green Mega Rayquaza but a Shiny Mega Rayquaza with a black, yellow, and red color scheme. Basically, a “shiny” Pokémon is a rare, alternate coloration of the Pokémon. Finding shiny Pokémon in the wild is an extremely rare happenstance, making a shiny legendary all the more exceptional. Red Gyarados is the first shiny Pokémon many series veterans have encountered, as the official Pokémon website explains.

“For longtime Pokémon players, Red Gyarados was their first brush with a Shiny Pokémon. Red Gyarados first appeared in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver in Johto’s Lake of Rage. It’s still one of the most iconic encounters with a Shiny Pokémon so far in Pokémon games. Red Gyarados even predates the term “Shiny,” which added to the mystery of the different-looking Pokémon.”

Now, the appearance of shiny Pokémon via distribution events has been far more frequent than in generations past.

Fans of the enduring trading card game can also catch Shiny Mega Rayquaza in packs of the latest XY Ancient Origins expansion set. The expansion drops just weeks prior to the 2015 Pokémon World Championships taking place in Boston, Massachusetts. Competitors of all ages from across the globe compete in both the video game and trading card game for special prizes and the elusive World Champion title. New this year during World Championships weekend is the Boston Open competition, which will give competitors the opportunity to earn Pokémon Championship Points. Players who earn enough points per their age division during the tournament year get an invitation to compete in the 2016 Pokémon World Championships.
