Eva Amurri Miscarriage: Actress Opens Up About Family Tragedy, How Common Are Miscarriages?

Eva Amurri and Kyle Martino were excited to share that the couple was expecting their second child. Amurri and Martino were celebrating the first birthday of their daughter Marlow Mae when they were sharing the news of being pregnant. Eva was just under 10 weeks pregnant when she found out her pregnancy was over due to a miscarriage.

“At my next visit for a routine ultrasound, however, the baby’s heart was no longer beating. Just like that, it was all over. What was so shocking to me is how common miscarriages are, versus how little I hear them talked about. I’m not sure if this is because people are ashamed to suffer this loss, or whether the loss is simply too painful to share (I can see how this could be the case also).”

Eva Amurri decided to share her tragedy in order to help others who are experiencing the same thing.

“I am sharing in the hopes that we can be a light for people going through similar circumstances, and to remind myself and others that there is no shame in voicing our heartbreaks and allowing others to comfort us.”

Amurri’s realization about the commonality of a miscarriage is accurate. The topic of miscarriage is one that is not talked about much. Because of the lack of talking about the topic, people think that a miscarriage is rare.

According to miscarriages.org, a miscarriage can happen in up to 25 percent of all pregnancies. If you include women who do not even realize they are pregnant, the number doubles to 50 percent. The first two weeks of a pregnancy are the ones in which a miscarriage can happen up to 75 percent of the time. The percentage drops to between five and 10 percent after week 12.

Amurri says that her doctor believes that a developmental problem with the fetus caused the miscarriage to take place.

“My doctor told me that this was most likely a case of there being an underlying major developmental problem with the fetus, and that it had simply stopped growing. That nature had taken its course in the most brutally honest and simple way that nature sometimes works.”

Losing a child has to be one of the worst things that a parent can go through. Eva, Kyle, and Marlow will be impacted by this miscarriage for a while. Hopefully, they can come together as a family and love each other as much as they can because tomorrow is never a given.
