Fourth ‘Doctor Who’ Tom Baker To Join ‘Star Wars’ Universe

It appears that the universes of Star Wars and Doctor Who are about to join forces in a major way, as fourth doctor Tom Baker has revealed to fans that he plans to portray a character in George Lucas’ iconic sci-fi franchise.

Baker reportedly made the comments at the Day Of The Doctors convention, which was held this weekend in Slough, England. According to SciFiFantasy Network, the 81-year-old actor admitted that he had been cast in an upcoming Star Wars adventure while signing autographs for eager fans.

“I’m going to be in this new Star Wars thing, you know? I’m going down to record some voices for this new character they’ve created for me, very soon.”

As Yahoo News points out, Baker didn’t say exactly what Star Wars project he would be appearing in, though there are numerous options on the horizon. Baker could be implying that he will voice a CGI character in the soon-to-be-released The Force Awakens, though director J.J. Abrams has famously relied heavily on practical effects in filming the newest Star Wars, as the Inquisitr has previously reported. Gareth Edwards is also currently at work on the upcoming Star Wars Anthologies: Rogue One, though alternately, Baker might be appearing in an animated Star Wars adventure.

Interestingly enough, if Baker were to appear in an animated Star Wars project (whether it be Rebels or something entirely new), he wouldn’t be the first Doctor Who lead to do so. As astute fans no doubt know, tenth doctor David Tennant voiced the robotic character Huyang in Star Wars: The Clone Wars during the show’s fifth season.

Though in his 80s, Tom Baker continues to perform as a voice actor, appearing in a number of audio plays for Big Finish Productions. At the same signing where he revealed his future Star Wars work, Baker also discussed his past conversations with Peter Jackson, detailing that he had been asked to appear in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The prospect of spending several years away from home, however, was less than appealing to the British actor.

Fans likely don’t have long to wait before finding out which facet of the Star Wars universe Tom Baker will be involved in, as The Force Awakens opens on December 18, and the second season of Rebels begins later this year.
