Rachel Ehmke: Minnesota Teen Hangs Herself Following School Bullying, ‘Slut’ Written On Locker

Rachel Ehmke was a happy, upbeat 13-year-old girl, until she was plagued by bullies for months, ultimately leading to her hanging herself in her home on April 29th.

Rachel’s father stated of the bullying that:

“She tried to deal with it. We thought she was dealing with it and the school thought she was dealing with it. She locked into this stuff and couldn’t let it go.”

The seventh-grader at Kasson-Mantorville School in Mantorville, Minnesota, suffered through bullying since last fall, including having chewing gum stuck to her textbooks, and also having the word “slut” written across her gym locker. Rachel’s sister, Brittany, spoke about the locker defacing at a Communities Against Bullying meeting about the bullying, stating:

“My dad had to call twice before [they] actually did something about it. Everyone had to watch my little sister open her locker [with the word still present].”

The same group of girls who wrote the painful word reportedly also threatened her and repeatedly called her a “prostitute,” despite the fact that she had never even kissed a boy.

Chris Flannery, a parent of two kids at Kasson-Mantorville middle school, told reporters that his 8th grader was a part of several students at the school who received an anonymous text abour Rachel Ehmke just two days before her death. Flannery said that:

“It was pretty explicit. Something to the effect of that Rachel was a slut and to get her to leave the Kasson-Mantorville School, forward this to everyone you know.”

The text message has since been trace to a source outside the school. Rachel reportedly pleaded with her dad to not mention the recent bullying, or the text, to authorities. Her father found her hanging from the rafters of her mother’s house, barely alive. She later passed away at a local hospital. The note her parents found following her death reads, “I’m fine = I wish I could tell you how I really feel.” Beside the words is a picture of a broken heart.
