Surprise Appearance: Johnny Depp Surprises Fans At D23 To Receive Legend Award

Fans attending Disney’s D23 expo were thrilled after a surprise appearance by their favorite pirate, Jack Sparrow himself, Johnny Depp.

On Friday, Depp surprised fans at the Anaheim Convention Center to be honored as one of the Disney Legends – an award given to certain individuals who have contributed to Disney entertainment, as the Boston Herald reports.

In his surprise appearance, Johnny Depp said that he didn’t know why he was there and he dislikes the words “fan” and “legend,” but he nevertheless thanked Disney and the audience.

“I never really liked that word, because it sort of implies that someone is above and someone is beneath in a weird way. So I would say that you are in fact my ’employer.’ Thank you for giving me this great opportunity to basically do stupid stuff for a living. For watching me.”

Johnny Depp’s surprise appearance was met with applause from more than 7,000 attendees.

The 52-year-old actor has appeared in all Pirates of the Caribbean movies as Captain Jack Sparrow. He is set to reprise his role as a swashbuckler when the fifth installment in the series, entitled Dead Men Tell No Tales, hits theaters sometime in 2017. Aside from playing a pirate, he has also appeared in Disney’s Alice in Wonderland as the Mad Hatter.

Johnny Depp is also scheduled to reprise his role in the second installment called Alice Through the Looking Glass, according to EW. The first few posters for Alice Through the Looking Glass have been revealed, as Hollywood Life reports, and has the tagline, “It’s time for a little madness.” And that’s just what we can expect from Johnny Depp’s portrayal of the Mad Hatter.

The surprise appearance caught everyone off guard, as everyone knows Johnny is busy with all his film work. He has worked on four movies just this year, and who knows what other projects the movie star is working on. In addition, Johnny Depp is also busy with his music career, as the Inquisitr previously reported. He is part of Hollywood Vampires, a music group that comprises of Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan, Joe Perry, and Alice Cooper.
