Jenna Bush Hager Welcomes Baby Girl

Thursday, August 13, marked a huge day for Jenna Bush Hager who welcomed a baby girl. Poppy Louise Hager entered the world at 7 lbs 9 oz early that morning. Her arrival turned the family of three into a family of four as the second daughter to Jenna and Henry Hager. She joins two-year-old sister Mila.

The Hagers decided to name their new baby girl after Jenna’s grandfather, the former President George H.W. Bush, whose nickname as a child was “Poppy.”

“We are proud to name her after a man we so adore,” Henry informed press correspondents. “We’re thrilled.”

Her middle name, Louise, comes from the Hager side of the family. It was Henry’s grandmother’s middle name.

Fans of the Today show correspondent might remember back in April when Jenna announced that the family would be welcoming a baby girl into the family. The announcement came via a video of the family, with Mila at the center.

The couple opted to find out the sex of their baby after guessing wrong with Mila.

“We were convinced she was a boy, to the point that we painted the nursery a pale blue. And it was a girl!,” Bush Hager said at the time.

Fans of the Bush family might recall the special bond between Mila and former President Bush. If the way that Mila has George W. Bush wrapped around her finger is any indication, little Poppy will likely have the same effect.

Avid watchers of the Today Show will remember Jenna’s heartfelt final day before going on maternity leave. She had a surprise call from mother and grandmother Laura and Barbara Bush.

“We’re calling in just to give her lots of love, and tell her we can’t wait to see that new baby,” said the most recent former first lady, Laura.

Jenna was overwhelmed by the call. Jenna, overcome with emotion, burst into tears, repeating, “I can’t handle this.”

Before leaving, Jenna told viewers that she planned to take it slow and enjoy every possible minute with Mila and Poppy. She talked about her tendency to over-plan her vacation days and is hopeful that that won’t happen during these last days of summer.

All reports indicate that both baby and mother are healthy and happy and looking forward to a relaxing summer as a family. After the family texted and Facetimed with their extended family members, Jenna Bush Hager and her much-welcomed baby girl are enjoying their time at home.
