With all the traumatic events that unfolded during Season 11 of Grey's Anatomy, many have been wondering what direction the show will take in the new season. Although some may be worried that more trouble is on the way for the characters in the medical drama, Shonda Rhimes recently revealed that romance would be a theme in Season 12.
In an interview during the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour, Rhimes dished out some spoilers concerning the romantic lives of Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw).
"Definitely some new romances for them this season, and some pretty exciting ones, too, which I think are going to be kind of interesting," Rhimes stated.
To add to her newest comments, Rhimes has stated in the past that both characters would be dating new partners in the coming season.
"Arizona obviously does not date men, and Callie's love interest so far this season is a woman. I like that we're honoring the fact that her character is bisexual," Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly. "I feel like her energy right now feels like that's what she's looking for."
Meanwhile, in regards to Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) love life in the new season of Grey's Anatomy, Rhimes went on to add that she isn't ready to move on following the tragic death of her husband, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
"She's living in a house with her sisters. There's a lot of single women right now. She's surrounded by women who are dating and having a whole life," Rhimes explained in the interview. "She's not interested in all that. She's pondering, 'Is there a second life or are the best years behind you?'"
Speaking of living with her sisters, another storyline that will be interesting to follow in the new season is just how they will all react to each other living under the same room. With that in mind, Kely McCreary recently sat down with TV Line and talked about Maggie living with Amelia and Meredith.
"I can tell you straight up that Maggie has a home... Remember how we never saw last season where Maggie lives? Now she lives with Amelia and Meredith in Ellis' house, which is super cool," she stated. "There will definitely be some conflict, but of the hilarious variety as opposed to the sisters-pulling-each-other's-hair-out variety. You can expect some 'clashes of the titans' going on."
Season 12 of Grey's Anatomy is scheduled to premiere September 24 on ABC.
