Constantine Maroulis Releases Official Statement Defending Himself After Domestic Violence Charges, Secures Restraining Order Against Baby Mama

News of American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis’ arrest hit the web after he was charged with domestic violence for allegedly throwing live-in girlfriend and baby mama, Angel Reed, in an altercation, as the Inquisitr previously reported.

However, Constantine said in his defense that it was Reed who initiated that fight, saying that she threw an object at him and kicked him after Maroulis told her he was leaving her for her instability.

Maroulis’ representative, Howard Bragman, released a statement to ET Online on behalf of the singer to say that Constantine acted in self defense.

“Late last night Mr. Maroulis told Angelina Reed, his live-in girlfriend and mother of his four-year-old daughter Malena, that he was leaving her because of continued instability. She became very angry and began attacking him. During the course of the attack she hit him with her fists and threw numerous objects at him. He sustained a bruise and cut on his right lip.”

The official statement also said that Constantine did not throw Angel Reed to the ground as she claims. After the altercation, Maroulis left their home to protect himself.

“Some time later the local police came and arrested him for domestic abuse. He paid a small bail and was released.”

Further, Bragman said that Constantine is the victim and that Reed has a history of attacking Maroulis and there have been prior incidents that were reported to the police.

Now, a new report from TMZ says that Constantine has secured a restraining order against Reed just hours after his arrest. The judge temporarily agreed on granting Maroulis a restraining order and stated that Reed should stay away from the house that they share. However, she was not prohibited from seeing the 4-year-old daughter she shares with Maroulis.

“Mr. Maroulis intends to defend himself vigorously, as well as protect his child, both in the court of law and, as necessary, in the court of public opinion and is confident that he will be completely vindicated when the truth is known.”

Constantine Maroulis, 39, ended up in sixth-place on Season 4 of American Idol. Aside from being a singer, he has also appeared in musicals such as Rock of Ages where he won a Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a musical.

Maroulis’ rep also said that Constantine is thanking his friends, fans, and family for their support in him during this trying time. He assures that “their belief in him is warranted.”
