The Notebook, the 2004 film based on Nicholas Sparks’ book of the same name, is finally coming to television. The romantic drama film, which stars Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling as the lead characters, was one of the greatest love stories of the past decade, and now it will incite another cry fest when it comes to your television.
In an exclusive report by Entertainment Weekly, CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed the news that The Notebook is in development. The TV series’ logline states that the backdrop of the show is set in the 1940s, post-World War II.
“I don’t believe we’re going to see the older couple – what they become. But things change [in development]. I’m thrilled Nick Sparks wanted to do it at The CW.”
As The Independent reports, the pilot for The Notebook is not yet finished, and no details regarding actors and actresses have been revealed. However, there’s news of who the people are behind the project. Nicholas Sparks, author of The Notebook, will serve as the series’ executive producer together with Theresa Park, while Todd Graff will serve as the producer and writer.

The official synopsis of The Notebook was also revealed.
“This series will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina.”
The Notebook, produced by New Line Cinema, had a budget of $29 million and totaled $115.6 million in the box office. The movie won several awards including eight at the 2005 Teen Choice Awards, one at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards, and one at the 2005 Golden Satellite Awards. The most talked about, though, was the Best Kiss award where Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling reenacted their kiss onstage.
