Cleveland Police Release Video Of Ralkina Jones Who Was Found Dead In Jail Cell

Ohio police have released a video footage of Ralkina Jones, 37, of Cleveland Heights – who was found dead in her jail cell – that was captured 15 hours before her death, according to Cleveland. In the video footage, Jones is heard informing the officer of her five medical conditions. She goes on to say, “I’m not asking any exceptions to any rules but what I will tell you is — I don’t want to die in your cell.”

“All I be wanting is somebody to be honest with me the entire time, instead of a different shift coming on and being mean to me,” she added. However, despite her long conversation with the officer, who seemed more than concerned about her health, she was found dead in her jail cell the following day.

On July 25, Jones was arrested and taken to the county jail after allegedly striking her ex-husband with a tire iron and trying to run over him and his friend in a Save-A-lot parking, all while her 11-year-old daughter sat in the back seat.

Once she arrived at the county jail, she was visibly concerned about her health and wanted to ensure she was able to take her medication. The last thing she wanted was to die in the jail cell, but her worst fear became her reality, reported The Independent.

Police officials say that after learning of her medical history and head injuries sustained during physical abuse from her ex-husband, they checked on her “periodically” throughout the night. When they noticed she was a bit sluggish at 7:15 p.m., – just a few hours after the recorded conversation – she was taken to HealthSpan Hospital, where doctors say her vital signs appeared normal, and she was sent back to the county jail.

At 12:45 a.m. the following day, her vital signs were checked again while in her cell and she appeared to be okay, but at 7:15 a.m., Jones was found dead in her cell. Her remains were sent to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office, but they have yet to “release a cause of death.” However, they don’t suspect foul play.

Jones’ family is devastated over the tragedy and are seeking answers. Her sister Renee Ashford said that “Every time we call we don’t get an answer and that’s the upsetting part.”

“One thing I could say about my sister is she would want us to find out why? You can’t just tell me one minute I see my sister and the next day, she dead.”

After Ralkina Jones was found dead in her cell, her family has released a statement saying they “do not fully understand all of the facts and circumstances surrounding her death but look forward to the results of the pending investigations.”
