Nik Wallenda Successfully Completes Longest High Wire Walk Ever At Wisconsin Fair

Nik Wallenda has successfully completed the longest high walk ever at a Wisconsin fair.

On Tuesday, August 11, the world famous wire walker was successful in completing his longest walk ever, 10 stories above the Milwaukee Mile, Fox 6 Now reports. The wire, which was the width of a nickel, was assembled from 1:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday morning by Wallenda’s crew. It measured 1,576 feet long and was suspended 118 feet in the air between two cranes.

“I`m excited to be here at this amazing State Fair for the longest walk of my career. It will take a lot of endurance,” Wallenda said, noting that the hardest part about each walk is taking the first step onto the wire, because each wire feels different.

“I will feel alive when I get on that wire. That’s where I feel at home,” the nine-time world record holder added.

So far in his career, the seventh-generation wire walker has made treks across the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and between Chicago skyscrapers, ABC News affiliate 12 WISN reports. His previous longest walk was at the Grand Canyon.

“You know, I am human just like you. So absolutely I have that same, what you call fear possibly. I call it respect. I respect the fact that heights are dangerous. If I were to come off that wire it would most likely cost me my life,” Wallenda said.

“That balancing pole is about 45 pounds. Your arms start to fatigue. You get tired. You get thirsty. There’s a lot of things that happen, and I just need to focus on what I’m doing to make it to the other side,” Wallenda added.

The last Wallenda to perform in the Milwaukee area was Karl Wallenda, Nik’s great-grandfather, in July of 1974. He made it across a high wire at County Stadium and even did a handstand in the air, which Nik said was “his thing.”

“That was his thing. That was what my great-grandfather did. He always did a handstand. I do everything I do to really honor my ancestors and to honor him,” Wallenda said.
