James Cavalcoli: ‘Boy Lover’ Professor Arrested On Child Porn Charges

James Cavalcoli, a University of Michigan professor who called himself “boy lover” online was arrested after traveling more than 1,000 miles with condoms and lube in his suitcase to meet a father and son for sex, according to the FBI.

The boy lover arrest was part of an FBI sting created to capture pedophiles. James Cavalcoli, 51, was employed as a computational medicine bioinformatics assistant professor at the University of Michigan. He was chatting online with an agent posing as “Jim,” a father and fellow pedophile, on a child porn website.

Cavalcoli and Jim made arrangements to meet so the boy lover professor could have sex with the son of the new online pal, according to FBI reports. The professor reportedly traveled 1,350 miles from his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Florida for the meet.

When the alleged pedophile arrived in Broward County, members of the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force swarmed in with handcuffs. Cavalcoli allegedly sent nude photos of himself to Jim before making the trip to Florida. The University of Michigan professor reportedly confessed and said that he “regretted” making the trip to have sex with the teenage boy, according to a Sun-Sentinel report.

Cavalcoli, who is unmarried and has no children, allegedly met Jim on a website which allows men to chat about child pornography, sex with young boys, and fetishes, according to a Daily Mail report. For 20 months after the initial virtual meeting, Cavalcoli came to believe that Jim was also a fellow “Bi” or boy lover.

The University of Michigan professor allegedly discussed his sexual fetish for tween or older teen boys with his online pal. Cavalcoli allegedly sent “sexually explicit” messages to Jim and ultimately asked to meet the undercover Florida Department of Law Enforcement officer and his son for sex.

Before agreeing to meet, Jim told boy lover that he would have to promise there would be “no pain” if Cavalcoli had sex with his son.

“I’m glad you’re looking out for you boy,” the professor allegedly said.

The Michigan man also packed multiple digital devices, including a laptop computer with him for the trip, police officials said, according to a report by NBC. Before arriving to have sex with the teen boy, Cavalcoli allegedly got nervous and sent Jim a text asking for reassurance that the was not really “police of FBI affiliated.” But even though panic appeared to have emerged, the professor still allegedly texted that he was “excited” for the meet.

When James Cavalcoli arrived at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa in Weston, Florida last weekend, he was met not with a young man being offered up for sex, but by a group of FBI agents.
