Watch the hottest team in Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays, host the struggling Oakland A’s live online for free and legally Tuesday — a game that could see the Blue Jays, who were eight games out of first place in the American League East on July 28, move to within a half-game of the division-leading New York Yankees.
Toronto, who has a scheduled off-day Monday, stunned the Yankees in New York with a three-game sweep over the weekend, finishing up with a 2-0 shutout on Sunday. In fact, the Blue Jays were so dominant in the series against the division leaders that after allowing a run in the second inning of the series opener Friday, Toronto pitching held New York scoreless for the remainder of the three-game set — 26 consecutive shutout innings.
The Blue Jays have now won eight straight and 11 of their last 12 games. If the Yankees lose on the road to Cleveland Tuesday, a Toronto win over Oakland, who at 51-62 have the second-worst record in the AL, closes the gap to just a half game — which is why 2015 is quickly becoming the most exciting year for baseball north of the border since 1993 when Toronto won the World Series.
But Toronto has never even made the playoffs in the 21 seasons since then, even though starting in 1994 (a strike-shortened year) Major League Baseball adopted the three-division, Wild Card format, creating two new playoff spots per league — even adding a second Wild Card spot two years ago.

Taking the mound for the Blue Jays will be Drew Hutchison, who brings a 10-2 record into the game, despite a hefty 5.42 ERA in 118 innings pitched over 22 starts. But the 24-year-old has pitched much better in the Rogers Centre this year, posting just a 2.69 ERA at home compared to a bloated 9.00 road mark.
The A’s counter with 24-year-old Kendall Graveman, who was selected by the Blue Jays in the eighth round of the 2013 draft, but was shipped to Oakland last November as part of the trade that brought Josh Donaldson to Toronto.
Graveman brings a respectable 3.90 ERA into Tuesday’s start.
