The Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 stars aren’t supposed to discuss how much money they’re making from their reality TV gigs at MTV. However, thanks to some slips by a couple of the cast members fans are getting a bit of an idea about how much the girls are raking in for sharing their lives with the world.
According to MStarz, Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans recently opened up about her salary in a radio interview and she claims she’s made about half a million dollars.
“I wouldn’t really say that [I’ve made a million dollars], I would say a little bit over maybe half [a million]? I’m not really allowed to discuss it.”
However, Teen Mom 2 has run for 6 seasons, and original Teen Mom star Amber Portwood has revealed in the past that she makes about $140K for a six month deal, if Jenelle makes as much or more than Amber then she’s at least earned $840K, which is close to a million bucks.
The stars’ salaries is not only a huge topic of conversation among fans, but a source of ammo for their haters. Some critics believe that the reality series is supposed to be showing the struggle of being a young mother, and if the ladies are being back tens of thousands of dollars then the struggle isn’t as authentic as is should be for them.
Although, many fans have to admit to themselves that the girls who appear on Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2, Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell, Amber Portwood, Farrah Abraham, Chelsea Houska, Jenelle Evans, Kailyn Lowry, and Leah Messer, have shared so much of their lives for the public to see.
The girls have given birth, raised children, broken up with boyfriend, divorced husbands, shared grief over the death of loved ones, showcased unstable family lives, dealt with drug addiction, and so much more in front of the cameras, and have taken so much criticism for every little move they make, are they not entitled to be compensated for that? The Kardashian family does the same and they don’t take as much heat for their reality TV pay out as the Teen Mom girls do.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Maci Bookout recently opened up about her reality TV paycheck, saying that it’s nothing to brag about, and that she’s not getting the best deal from the network.
The International Business Times reports that the ladies of the show have also become celebrities in their own right and many have gone on to write books about the struggles they’ve overcome in their lives. Maci Bookout, Amber Portwood, Farrah Abraham, Kailyn Lowry, and Catelynn Lowell have all written memoirs about their lives, and Jenelle Evans says she’s also working on one. The women also have “real” jobs that they attend on a regular basis.
