Spec Ops: The Line Demo Out Now On PSN, XBL

Spec Ops: The Line is scheduled to hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 late next month, but publisher 2K Games is giving you the chance to try out the singleplayer portion of the game early by way of a Spec Ops: The Line demo, which is out now on PSN and XBL.

For Xbox 360 gamers, you’ll only be able to get your hands on the Spec Ops: The Line demo today if you’re an Xbox Live Gold subscriber. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait a week later, at which point the demo will be made available to all, Silver users included.

Here’s a description of the story and setting of Spec Ops: The Line to get you up to speed:

“The single-player narrative unfolds within Dubai after a series of cataclysmic sandstorms cut the city off from the rest of the world. Playing as Captain Martin Walker, gamers add to the city’s destruction by engaging in action-packed firefights as they search for Colonel John Konrad and his missing battalion, The Damned 33rd. In search of answers and survivors, players who experience the demo will tear through portions of two early chapters of Spec Ops: The Line.”

The full game will also include a multiplayer mode, which 2K describes as “an expansive, class-based multiplayer experience that is fun for both casual and hard core gamers.” Spec Ops: The Line‘s multiplayer is also said to be a squad-based affair, where players can use the treacherous sand-filled environment to their advantage.

“The multiplayer mode features squad-based games in visually stunning and unique environments where players are encouraged to use their sand-filled surroundings to thwart their enemies; however, the environment can quickly turn from advantageous to treacherous with the onset of sandstorms – which impact visibility, team communication and weapon handling.”

Spec Ops: The Line is due out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on June 26 in North America. A European release follows on June 29.
