Annie Lennox’s Daughter, Tali, Rescued, Boyfriend MIA — Pair Clung To Kayak For 20 Minutes

A powerful current and alcohol both could have played a role in a kayaking accident that sent the daughter of legendary singer Annie Lennox, Tali Lennox, plunging into the Hudson River Saturday.

The 22-year-old model and painter has been rescued, but her boyfriend, photographer Ian Jones, 32, is still missing and feared drowned, the Express UK reported.

Annie’s second daughter, Tali, and her beau were kayaking along the Hudson in upstate New York in the vicinity of the Straatsburgh State Historic Site when their watercraft capsized; officials don’t yet know what caused the incident, USA Today reported.

They went into the water about 10 a.m., TWC Cable News added.

Apparently, the pair was able to cling to the kayak together for 20 minutes, but eventually, the current became too strong, and they were separated, reported The Irish Examiner.

“They were holding onto the kayak and kicking and swimming all at the same time. They had only been separated for a few minutes before she was rescued. She was in the water and she was located and picked up by a passing vessel,” Captain John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office told the Telegraph. “She was interviewed and gave us an account of what happened. She stated that they were kayaking a two-person tandem kayak and then it capsized. She gave us the location where she last saw him and that’s where we started to concentrate our search.”

The Hudson is reportedly quite dangerous, however police said neither Lennox nor Jones was wearing a life jacket. Alcohol may have been involved.

Annie’s daughter, also known as Tali Fruchtmann, was fortunately recovered shortly after the kayak capsized. She was found and rescued by people passing by on a pleasure craft and pulled from danger.

Ian was nowhere to be found, and officials fear the man may have drowned. Search efforts began early Saturday, were suspended by the evening due to river conditions, and restarted Sunday morning. Authorities are searching by air, water, and land; helicopters have been seen in the area, as well as officers on foot and in boats.

Police have described him as about 6’3″, slim, with dark hair; he was wearing jeans and a denim shirt at the time of the incident.

“The current … is very strong and we believe that played a role in the kayak capsizing. Once the two got in the water it was difficult for them to stay together,” said Captain John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. “We’re doing everything we can to find him. We hope to find him alive and well. We believe that alcohol may have played a role.”

Lennox wasn’t injured, and she wasn’t taken to the hospital to be treated. Annie lives in London, but is reportedly flying to New York to be with Tali. Annie Lennox, 60, was born in Scotland, and is probably most well known as the lead singer of the Eurythmics.
