“It was disappointing to score an own goal, but I held my head high and told Bukenya that we need to get involved in the fight back and it was even in my mind that I will score,” Xulu said. “Fortunately, I scored and it helped the confidence to grow and it ended up being a great evening.”

Despite the difficulties against Maritzburg United, the Kaizer Chiefs are confident heading into the matchup against Chippa United.

“I am happy. With more games you hope there’ll be improvement and it is promising,” David Zulu told the Chiefs website. “We are going there to win. No more feelings, even though they gave me a break.

“We are the defending champs, we have to play like champions.”
