‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12: New Spoilers Tease Romances And More

Grey’s Anatomy fans are waiting to find out the fate of Meredith Grey and the rest of her friends when the series returns this fall. The Grey’s Anatomy season 11 finale left some couples on the verge of split, another pair showing how far they have moved on from their relationship, and Meredith deciding to live again after the death of Derek Shepherd.

Shonda Rhimes spoke about the series at the TCA’s this week, and she dropped some more clues about where season 12 picks up. According to International Business Times, Rhimes revealed that the season premiere, which is titled “Sledgehammer,” will pick up three months after the finale, and she also shared some bad news for April and Jackson fans.

In the season 11 finale, Jackson told April if she left for another trip overseas, their marriage was over. Apparently, April decided to head overseas anyway, and that means the couple will split. Since there is the time jump, fans might not see the actual break-up of April and Jackson. They will see the aftermath as they both try to cope with the split.

However, there is some positive news on the romance front. Entertainment Weekly shared a new Arizona and Callie scoop shared by Rhimes. Romance will be in the air for Callie once again.

“Arizona obviously does not date men, and Callie’s love interest so far this season is a woman. I like that we’re honoring the fact that her character is bisexual. I feel like her energy right now feels like that’s what she’s looking for.”

It is not yet known who Callie will date, but it does appear that she is moving forward from her romance and marriage. As for Arizona, Jessica Capshaw is sticking around Grey’s Anatomy for the time being. The actress signed a three-year long contract earlier this summer.

Rhimes also tackled the Derek Shepherd question at the TCA panel, according to E! Online. Why did he have to die?

It appears that Dempsey was ready to exit the series, and Rhimes was ready to let him leave. However, him walking out the door and leaving his wife and kids behind was not an option.

“As painful as it was for me as a storyteller, because I had never really thought that was going to happen, it preserved what felt true to me, was that Derek was going to have to die in order for that love to remain honest. Because I really couldn’t have the idea that he just turned out to be a bad guy who walked out on his wife and kids be a true story. To me, it felt like that was the only way to make Meredith and Derek’s magic remain true and forever frozen in time.”

The cast of Grey’s Anatomy has been hard at work filming season 12 last month. When the members of the cast returned to the set, they did not hide their excitement.
