Playstation 3, PS4, And PS Vita Will Soon Have An ‘Attack on Titan’ Game

Playstation 3 isn’t out of the game yet, despite the Playstation 4 and PS Vita gaining popularity. Anime fans will be happy to know that a new game based on Attack on Titan — the manga and anime series that has been taking the world by storm since its debut in 2009 — has been announced for all three Playstation systems, and is set to be released sometime in 2016.

Currently referred to as Attack on Titan (Working Title), the Playstation game will be the first of its kind in the franchise, according to CBR. The franchise has seen several game adaptations in the form of a mobile game, a game for the Nintendo 3DS, and a series of “visual novels” — interactive, game-ified storybooks usually played on computer. But the release of the as-yet-untitled game is the first time that the story will be playable on Playstation or any other home system.

Anime News Network notes that the Playstation game was first announced by the opening of a teaser site by game makers KOEI Tecmo last week. However, no details were given other than that Omega Force, the subdivision of KOEI Tecmo that makes the Dynasty Warriors series (among many others), would be making something outside of said franchise. That was literally the entire teaser site, in fact, it was just a bare-bones screen with a small countdown and “This is not Warriors” written in both English and Japanese.

The official website launch noted the name of the game, the fact that it would be available across all three current Playstation platforms, and a vague 2016 release. The trailer shows visuals of the series’s protagonist, Eren Jaeger, taking his iconic leap toward the cannibalistic Colossal Titan. Nothing further about the Playstation game has been announced, and there are very few clues to be drawn from where or how far into the plot and background of the series this particular game will go.

Fans of overseas games used to a long wait for their favorite titles in their native language don’t need to worry, either. The Playstation game’s release has been announced for North America and Europe as well as the series’s native country of Japan. Presumably this means that the different-language releases will be, if not simultaneous, at least reasonably close to each other. No specifics have been given as to when in 2016 the untitled game will be ready for the Playstation platforms, but guesses are being made that it will be early on to coincide with the release of a new volume of the manga.
