The Weeknd Will Perform At The 2015 VMAs, Which A-List Star Just Made The Announcement?

The Toronto-based singer The Weeknd is set to perform his newest track, “Can’t Feel My Face,” during the upcoming 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. The news was broke after actor Tom Cruise tweeted a message that the group would be at the annual award ceremony.

Cruise recently performed a hilarious lip sync battle on The Tonight Show with host Jimmy Fallon, where the two sang “Can’t Feel My Face.” Following the duet, Cruise posted a message on his social media account, revealing that The Weeknd would be performing at the VMAs.

“I had a blast on @JimmyFallon doing #CantFeelMyFace,” Cruise wrote. “Wait till you see the real @TheWeeknd perform it at the @MTV #VMAs on Aug 30.”

“Can’t Feel My Face” will be included on The Weeknd’s newest album, Beauty Behind the Madness, which is set to be released a few days prior to the VMAs. According to Rap-Up, the album will include 14 tracks with titles such as “Often,” “In the Night,” and “The Hills.” The new release will also feature guest appearances in Lana Del Rey, Ed Sheeran, and Labrinth.

In regards to the new album, The Weeknd told the New York Times that his newest work is completely different than what he’s been doing in the past.

“It’s about me being who I am and stepping out of my comfort zone to try to feel something else besides what I’ve been feeling the past four years,” he stated in the interview. “Ups and downs… In my past albums, there were never ups.”

Meanwhile, along with his appearance at the 2015 MTV VMAs, which is set to air on August 30, The Weeknd will also be performing at the very first Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival on August 22.

The Weeknd has been sitting at the top of the Billboard Artist 100 list for two weeks in a row now. The list takes several things into account when determining the top artists, including the hottest songs, which albums are selling the most, and activity on social media.

The Weeknd’s dominance on the charts is largely due to his single, “Can’t Feel My Face,” the music video of which was recently released on Apple Music. The single has already had 148,000 downloads so far.

Placing just below The Weeknd are Taylor Swift at number two, Fetty Wrap at three, followed by Sheeran and OMI, who just released his hit “Cheerleader.”
