‘The X-Files’ Revival Spoilers: Mulder And Scully’s Relationship Status, Plus Who Is ‘The Key To Everything’? [Photo]

The wait for The X-Files revival continues, but thanks to news out of the Television Critics Association Press Tour and a new photo released by FOX, there is even more to begin speculating about until those six new episodes air, beginning January 24, 2016.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, there are new faces joining the X-Files revival (which is bringing back several familiar faces as well in addition to David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully), including Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose, who will play new agents.

FOX has already released a couple of teasers (during Wayward Pines episodes), each only 15 seconds, with the second featuring a brief exchange between Mulder and Scully to differentiate it from the previous one. As you can see in the videos below, bodies are also being dragged, someone steps on the “I Want to Believe” poster, and Mulder and Scully are investigating something in these short previews.

The network has also released an official episodic photo of Anderson’s Scully and Duchovny’s Mulder facing one another on a street. Duchovny also tweeted out the image with the caption, “I think I know you from somewhere,” and Anderson retweeted it with, “It’s all coming back to me.”

However, don’t get too excited about seeing these two characters back together again because there is some bad news, as Entertainment Weekly has reported that Mulder and Scully have broken up. In a clip shown from the X-Files revival series, she describes herself as his “friend and physician.”

IGN has posted a description and transcript from the new scene shown at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. After he hung up on her and she didn’t hear back from him, Scully sought Mulder out, only for him to tell her that they’ve been deceived all these years. She’s worried about him, but he seems to think that he’s found the answer.

“This will finally be their undoing,” Mulder said. “This is my life. This is everything. This is everything I believe in.”

According to Mulder, it’s Joel McHale’s character, Tad O’Malley, a conservative news anchor, who “woke [him] up” to the fact that they’re not looking at an alien conspiracy, but “a conspiracy of men,” and Mulder said that Tad is going to broadcast the truth.

Annet Mahendru’s character, Sveta, joined them in the clip, and Mulder called her “the key to everything.”

According to a previous report from Entertainment Weekly, which also posted a photo of Sveta with Scully, Mahendru’s character “believes she’s regularly abducted by aliens.”

The X-Files revival premieres Sunday, January 24, 2016, on FOX.
